“The Biology of the Devil Rays: Mantas and Mobulids”

Symposium Goals

This symposium will focus on the biology, management and conservation of the devil rays, mantas and mobulids. The main goal of this symposium is to bring together scientists, aquarists, divers and others to share their expertise in diverse areas.

Specific topics to be covered include movement, behaviors, natural history, fisheries interactions and conservation and management. This will help to determine the current state of knowledge of manta and mobulid biology, will provide insight on what questions remain unanswered and what is needed for conservation and management, and help bring to light some of the vast stores of unpublished data that has been collected by divers around the globe. If you are interested in attending the symposium see the guideline below.

Instruction to presenters:

· ABSTRACTS: All presenters wishing to be included in this symposium need to send their abstracts to both Co-Chairs (email below) by January 25th at 5pm.

· SMALL TRAVEL AWARDS: Submit request for travel awards to co-chairs for consideration by the funding committee. (guidelines for requesting funding will be provided shortly) Keep in mind that the aid can only be awarded after the conference and not paid in advance and the amount of funding available is limited. To be considered for a travel award, presenters must be in good standings with AES and have submitted their abstract to the co-chairs by January 25th 2008.

· Approved abstracts/presenters will then need to register with ASIH and submit their abstracts following the ASIH's guidelines.
The deadlines for abstract submission, meeting and hotel registration are given above.
