Membership Renewals: Standard & Affiliate Memberships
The AMERICAN ELASMOBRANCH SOCIETY was founded in 1983 as a "...non-profit organization...to advance the science of the study of living and fossil sharks, skates, rays and chimeras, and the promotion of education, conservation, and wise utilization of natural resources." Annual meetings are held in conjunction with meetings of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, and symposia are organized around various aspects of elasmobranch biology. A newsletter is published quarterly, and information is included and contributions welcomed on any topic of interest to scientists and non-scientists alike.

A.E.S. currently has in excess of 497 members, and more than 95 reside outside of the United States. New members are always welcomed!

Current members may RENEW their membership by downloading and completing the MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL FORM (click here to download this .pdf form with Adobe Acrobat). Memberships must be paid by January 1 (postmarked) to receive a ballot for elections for 2005. Members will be included in the AES Membership Directory if their membership dues are postmarked no later than March 1.

If you are currently involved with some aspect of elasmobranch studies or research, you would be eligible for STANDARD membership in the society which does require endorsement by a current standard member in good standing. If you qualify, complete a STANDARD MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION (click here to download this .pdf form with Adobe Acrobat), and return the form with the appropriate annual dues to Treasurer Daniel S. Ha (address on form). Again, please note that there is a requirement for a recommendation from a current, standard member of AES.

If you are interested in elasmobranchs or elasmobranch biology, but are not professionally involved with elasmobranchs as research subjects, you are invited to join A.E.S. as an AFFILIATE MEMBER. Affiliate membership does not require a recommendation from another member. It is a non-voting membership, but includes all other benefits of membership. If you are interested in affiliate membership, complete an AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION (click here to download this .pdf form with Adobe Acrobat), and return the form with the appropriate annual dues to Treasurer Daniel S. Ha (address on form).

If you require additional information, please contact Daniel S. Ha, treasurer of the AMERICAN ELASMOBRANCH SOCIETY at dshaxx@verizon.net
